John Aldridge has backed Rhian Brewster if he wants to leave Liverpool.
The 20-year-old marksman is heavily linked with a move away from Anfield and the Reds’ recent acquisition of Jota – who can play through the middle – could be a big indication that Jurgen Klopp plans to proceed without the young striker in his plans.
According to Sky Sports News, the Liverpool boss will indeed allow Brewster to leave, amid speculation that Crystal Palace could make a £19 million offer.
The Kirkby gem scored 11 goals during a half-season loan at Championship side Swansea City last term, firing them to a playoff spot.
And Liverpool legend Aldridge has told The Echo that he wouldn’t blame Brewster if he decided that his future is elsewhere.
He said: “That’s something I would certainly like to see [a buyback clause] as there’s no doubt the lad is a goalscorer. If he’s not going to get games at Liverpool in the foreseeable future having seemingly now moved further down the pecking order, you can’t blame him for wanting to move on.”
Last week, Brewster added fuel to the fire when he ‘liked’ an Instagram post about leaving Merseyside.
And Aldridge is right – you can’t blame him.
At 20, it’s imperative for his development that he’s playing football on a regular basis and although he’s a massive talent, he’s just not lethal enough yet to seriously challenge Roberto Firmino.
But according to Sky, Liverpool have the option to re-sign him for £37 million – if he goes to Palace – and that’s reassuring because, chances are, he could well rip up the Premier League one day.
