Well, it turns out that Arsenal do need Granit Xhaka after all.
You won’t find a more divisive figure among Arsenal fans than the Switzerland international.
Since his arrival in North London for £30 million five years ago, Xhaka divides opinion in a major way but his side’s performance tonight illustrated his importance.
The 29-year-old was ruled out for three months a little earlier this week and therefore he was unable to face Brighton at the Amex Stadium this evening.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta paired Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga but the visitors lost the midfield battle in a huge way against the Seagulls.
And some fans of the North London club are in agreement that Xhaka was sorely missed.
In the end, Arsenal and Graham Potter’s side shared a point apiece.
Brighton had enough chances in the first half to win the game relatively easily but the Gunners, to their credit, displayed the same resillience that they’ve been showing every week these days.
One thing is for sure: Xhaka is a very big player for Arsenal and the fact that Arsene Wenger – who signed him – Unai Emery and Arteta all like him is evidence of that.
It could be a long three months without the former Borussia Monchengladbach star if Arteta doesn’t figure out a way to play without him.
