Callum Wilson is on his way to Newcastle United and Bournemouth boss Jason Tindall ‘can’t begrudge’ the striker for wanting a fresh start at Premier League level, while speaking to the Daily Echo.
Finding a reliable number nine with a proven track record in the top flight of English football can feel like searching for hens’ teeth at times.
And Aston Villa will be understandably disappointed to lose out as rivals Newcastle secure the signature of an England international striker who, as recently as 2018/19, scored 14 times in a Premier League season.
According to Sky Sports, the Magpies have beaten the Villains to Wilson’s signature after the latter accepted defeat withdrew their offer.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have had a £20 million bid accepted with the 28-year-old set to join his former Bournemouth team-mate Ryan Fraser at St James’ Park.
Tindall would have loved Wilson to stay as he looks to guide the Cherries back to the big time at the first time of asking but Eddie Howe’s successor will not be surprised to see the highly-rated goalscorer packing his bags.

“There has always been speculation, there’s always been people wanting our best players. Callum falls into that category and that bracket. I can’t begrudge anyone that wants to play at the highest level,” says Tindall, who was handed the managerial reigns after assisting Howe at the Vitality.
“But in terms of what happens from here, that’s for the club to decide. Whatever happens – if he stays, I will be absolutely delighted as a manager.”
Wilson feels like an immediate upgrade on any of the forwards currently at Steve Bruce’s disposal.
The former Bournemouth talisman scored a disappointing seven goals last season – though that was still more than all four of Newcastle’s strikers managed between them.
