Ian Wright told Premier League Productions during their live coverage of Leeds defeat at West Ham on Monday night that ‘you cannot really argue’ with Tyler Roberts’ goal being ruled offside.
To the frustration of many Leeds supporters, Helder Costa was marginally, and that word is used lightly, offside when Roberts put the ball into the back of the next.
A magnifying glass may have been needed to see that offside, but in the end, it proved to be a turning point because West Ham ended up putting two into the back of Leeds’ net before the half-time break.
Whilst Wright admitted that the decision to rule out Roberts goal was ‘frustrating’, he thinks the right call was made.
“They found that his knee was further than the West Ham players foot, so you cannot really argue with it, as frustrating as it is,” said Wright.
“It seems very minute but that’s what we are dealing with now. When we see it from the other angle, yeh, it looks pretty obvious.
“But when we see the line then it doesn’t seem very obvious to me in respects of him being offside.”

Whilst these tight offside calls are proving to be frustrating, one thing those at Stockley Park are doing is being consistent with this rule.
Something that many referees have struggled to do when making other decisions.
But that won’t dampen Leeds’ annoyance because they have now slumped to four defeats in five games.
