Stevie Nicol thinks Tottenham Hotspur duo Son Heung-min and James Maddison would transform Mauricio Pochettino’s struggling Chelsea.

On Sunday, as Tottenham dazzled in the north London derby against Arsenal, with James Maddison being the star of the show, Chelsea fell to yet another defeat, this time to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

For the third game running, Chelsea have failed to score, with Liverpool legend Stevie Nicol claiming that the issue at the club is ‘the recruitment’, as he told ESPN

After six Premier League games, Son Heung-min has five goals to his name, in comparison, Chelsea have scored the same amount of goals.

After finishing in the Premier League’s bottom-half last season, many at Stamford Bridge were hoping that things would change this season.

But things seem to be getting worse, with Nicol defending manager Mauricio Pochettino because he feels the problems lie elsewhere.

“Pochettino is going to get it as well (criticism), and it’s wrong,” said Nicol. “It’s the recruitment. It’s staring everybody in the face. They don’t have a goalscorer and they don’t have a playmaker.

“Every single team on the planet has a goalscorer or a playmaker. Is it really that difficult?

“Can you imagine if you stuck Maddison and Son on that team, they would score goals, so it’s recruitment.”

James Maddison made the right move by joining Tottenham

If the 26-year-old had decided to join Chelsea, then it would have been the wrong call to join a team that has just jam-packed their squad with players, but without any sense.

Someone like Maddison, who won August’s Premier League Player of the Month, would have been drowned in the mess Chelsea currently find themselves in.

But Tottenham fans won’t care one jot because they think they have made the signing of the summer.
