Thierry Henry was less than impressed by what he saw from Rangers defender Leon King on Tuesday night as Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side ended their Champions League campaign with zero points, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/11/22 at 10:30 pm).
Steven Berghuis opened the scoring inside the first five minutes for Ajax during their 3-1 win at Ibrox and Henry just couldn’t believe what King was doing for that opening goal.
Whether the 18-year-old thought Berghuis’s shot was going wide, hitting the post or he expected Allan McGregor to be behind him.

Either way, he just seemed to move out of the way and allow a tame shot to hit the back of the net, as his night became worse and worse as the game wore on.
As a result, Rangers are now the worst-ever side in Champions League history, with zero points to their name and an unwanted -20 goal difference.
Arsenal and Premier League legend Thierry Henry reacted to King’s defending for the opening goal and that -20 goal difference, as former Liverpool defender James Carragher also chipped in with some comments.
“I like what Kudus does there, laying the ball off, but Jamie (Carragher) can you explain to me what the defender of Rangers is doing there,” asked Henry. “He just stands and lets the ball go in.”
Carragher responded: “You mentioned Kudus, he is someone we have mentioned right through the group stages. Going down 2-0 in that first half was a huge blow. Rangers not really playing for anything, but they are now the worse team in the Champions League.”
Henry on Rangers CL record: “-20 (goal difference). Wow. Amazing.”

PRESSURE ON GIO
It’s probably not the fact that Rangers are out of the Champions League that’s the issue here, but the manner in which they crashed out.
The performances have been beyond abject, as well as worrying signs in the Premiership, which just puts more and more pressure on Gio’s job.
It does seem as though it’s a matter of time for the former Dutch international and you are just waiting for him to drop more points in the league, before he is booted out of the door, or lose another Old Firm derby.
There needs to be a serious turnaround post-World Cup, if he still wants to be in the Ibrox dugout next season.
