Moussa Sissoko could have the opportunity to finish the season strongly.

Moussa Sissoko did himself few favours with his poor display for Spurs against Burnley at the weekend after coming onto replace Harry Winks.

The Frenchman missed a shot at goal and squandered possession, but if you were looking for a positive to take from it, he did not prove to be a liability who cost Spurs the game.

A poor touch and lack of ruthlessness are to be fair, what you might expect from a player who has not started a league game in 2017.

Now Sissoko could be in line for more opportunities, due to Harry Winks’ injury diagnosis ruling him out of action for the rest of the season.

Tottenham do have plenty of options in midfield, but Sissoko can expect to be involved, as his call on Saturday demonstrated.

April is a month with a packed schedule, and Sissoko is likely to get games, possibly even against Swansea City on Wednesday evening.

The £30 million midfielder has been an abject disappointment since his summer switch from Newcastle, with Winks’ emergence effectively ruling him out of the running for a central spot in the team.

Now there is a window of opportunity for Sissoko to salvage his season, even if it is in unhappy circumstances.

Given that he is playing for his future, at Spurs or to put himself in the shop window, he needs to take it.
