The summer signing from Derby County had an excellent display this weekend.
Will Hughes of Watford
Watford may be sweating slightly over the future of their first-team boss Marco Silva but they produced a performance this weekend which certainly appeared devoid of any doubt.
The Hornets continued their fine start to the season, and ended their pre-international break mini-slump, with a fine 2-0 win over West Ham United.
Will Hughes of England
In what was David Moyes’ first game as Hammers boss Watford were easily the better side and thoroughly deserved their victory.
One man who stood out was midfield maestro Will Hughes. The summer signing from Derby County scored with what was his first Premier League shot, before setting up Richarlison for Watford’s second.
The blonde bombshell might just have his eye on a World Cup spot in the summer if he can continue with these performances.
England’s midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek (C) is substituted by England’s manager Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate has shown he is not afraid to throw in young players with his recent England squads. He has also shown a propensity to favour some of his former under-21 stars, of which Hughes was certainly a part of.
If he can continue to play in this manner for the rest of the campaign there is no doubt he will be in with a shout of making the England squad for Russia – along with his Hornets team-mates Nathaniel Chalobah and Tom Cleverley.
