The Clarets believe they can sign the 23-year-old for less than the £5m the Whites are holding out for, which in turn, could mean an end to their pursuit of Hull City’s Andrew Robertson.
Turf Moor was believed to be the next likely destination for Robertson, but the Hull Daily Mail claims the Tigers’ £8m valuation of a player about to enter the final year of his contract has put Burnley off.
However, this could offer an opportunity to West Bromwich Albion, who had been the favourites to sign Taylor before Sean Dyche swooped in – according to the Birmingham Mail.
They too are interested in Robertson and with Dyche now seemingly out of the picture, Tony Pulis could move quickly to make sure they don’t miss out on a second left-back.
In fact, with the Scotland international also aged 23 but having played 57 Premier League games in comparison to Taylor’s zero, he could be the better option in any case.
