Geoff Horsfield, who was part of the West Brom team that avoided relegation on the final day in 2005, on whether they can repeat the feat this season.

West Bromwich Albion fans clinging onto any sort of positive this season are likely to look back to the 2004/05 campaign for inspiration.
That year, for the first time in Premier League history, the team bottom of the table at Christmas avoided relegation and in fact the Baggies were 20th going into the final game.

West Brom beat Portsmouth in that last match, securing survival by a single point and prompting wild celebrations at the Hawthorns as the fans ran onto the pitch to join the players.
After 28 fixtures that year the West Midlands outfit had 21 points. At the same stage this time around they have 20 points after losing 2-1 at home to Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
Manager Alan Pardew is under lots of pressure with seven points separating his team and survival currently and unfortunately a member of that great escape squad of 13 years ago, Geoff Horsfield, is doubtful whether this current crop have the same characteristics to repeat the feat.

“We had a lot of camaraderie,” Horsfield told Birmingham Live.
“Kevin Campbell came in and we had some top top characters. Neil Clement, myself, Jonathan Greening.
“We wore our heart on our sleeve. I’m not saying the players today aren’t trying, but they need to show more.
“They need to wear their hearts on their sleeve and not switch off.”
