Can Trent Alexander-Arnold play for the USMNT? Many have asked on Google after the Liverpool No.66 spoke about his background.
The 24-year-old has made a name for himself as one of the best footballers in Europe, although things have not gone smoothly on the international scene as Gareth Southgate regularly overlooks him for England.
So, can Alexander-Arnold play for the United States Men’s National Team? Let’s take a look…
Can Trent Alexander-Arnold play for the USMNT?
Well, the discussion began after Alexander-Arnold spoke to Men in Blazers about his mother, who was born in the United States.
The Liverpool star said: “The connection is just that me Mum’s American really! I love America, I absolutely love America. The culture of it, everything is so fun. It’s kind of laid back.”
Therefore, Alexander-Arnold was actually eligible to play for the USMNT.
However, the Liverpool No.66 cannot be selected by Gregg Berhalter or any other future USMNT coach, as he has already represented England in a competitive fixture.
Had Alexander-Arnold only played in friendlies for the Three Lions, he would still be able to switch his international allegiance and represent the United States.
Unfortunately for American football – or soccer – fans, 14 of Alexander-Arnold’s 18 appearances for England have come in competitive fixtures, so there is no chance of him ever playing for the USMNT, even if he wanted to.
Trent Alexander-Arnold Mom
Alexander-Arnold’s mother is Dianne Alexander, who was born in the United States to Doreen Carling.

Interestingly, Carling was in a relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson, before moving to New York City where she later married.
Where is Trent Alexander-Arnold from?
Alexander-Arnold was born in West Derby, Liverpool.
He attended the St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School, before later enrolling at St Mary’s in Crosby.
Alexander-Arnold eventually left St. Mary’s to enrol at Rainhill High School after being scouted by Liverpool, as they shared an affiliation with the Reds.
