Sunderland are among the clubs linked with Hibernian’s John McGinn.

John McGinn is a man in demand, with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic and Paul Heckingbottom’s Leeds United all linked with the Hibernian midfielder.

Ibrox club Rangers want to sign McGinn from Hibernian in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record, while a report in ChronicleLive in February 2018 claimed that the performances of the Scotland international midfielder has caught the eye of the Gers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Earlier this month, The Scottish Sun claimed that Leeds in the Championship in England are interest in McGinn, who is reported to be valued at £5 million by Hibernian.

On Sunday, The Scottish Sun reported that Sunderland manager Jack Ross wants to sign the 23-year-old midfielder.

With the Black Cats playing in League One in England next season following their relegation from the Championship, they face an uphill struggle to convince McGinn to ignore potential offers from Rangers, Celtic and Leeds to move to the Stadium of Light this summer.

However, new Sunderland owner Stewart Donald’s comments suggest that Sunderland will at least have the money to spend on players that Ross wants.

John McGinn of Hibernian vies with Jason Holt of Rangers during the Scottish Championship match between Hibernian and Rangers at Easter Road on April 20, 2016 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Scottish Sun quotes Donald as saying: “In League One the transfer fees aren’t large. The budget for Sunderland is going to be pretty hefty.

“It’s a budget that one or two Championship managers would like. We can generate funds for what we need.”

While Sunderland may be able to splash the cash and the Stadium of Light faithful will find Donald’s comments very encouraging, it is hard to see McGinn leave Scottish Premiership club Hibernian to play in League One when he could turn out for Rangers, Celtic or Leeds.
