Tottenham Hotspur youngster Marcus Edward’s has been touted as the next superstar at White Hart Lane, but can Reo Griffiths eclipse him?
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to face serious interest for their striking prodigy Reo Griffiths in the coming days from Celtic (football.london), as they look to bolster their attacking options, but Spurs will likely refuse any offers of a permanent deal as they feel the player has a big future at the club.
A fruitless loan period for fellow academy graduate Marcus Edwards at Norwich City last season will have likely put Spurs off the prospect of sending Griffiths out next term, as the 19-year-old has regressed in his attempts to break into the first-team squad, after issues regarding the player’s attitude were raised at Carrow Road.
Having been hailed as Tottenham’s most exciting prospect for some time, Edwards has failed to work his way through the ranks and Spurs fans are wondering whether he will be the next wasted English talent.
However, there is no sign of shortcomings coming from Griffiths’ development, and many are starting to believe he could be the best player to come through Tottenham’s ranks since 41-goal striker Harry Kane.
The 17-year-old has amassed a seriously impressive 23 goals in 18 games for Spurs at youth level, notably bagging four in a 9-0 rout of north London rivals Arsenal, and he looks to be nearing an inevitable promotion to the first-team squad already.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has become renowned for developing and nurturing young talent into brilliant players and, given the Griffith’s immense talent and willingness to learn, it would not be preemptive to suggest that we could be seeing the young man combining with the England captain in a few years.
As for Edwards, the path to Tottenham’s first-team seems as riddled with obstacles as ever.
