With just eight games of the Scottish Premiership remaining, Rangers have a massively uphill task if they are to finish second in the table in their first year back in the top flight.
By the time they take to the pitch against Kilmarnock on Wednesday, the Gers could be a whopping 13 points behind current second placed occupants Aberdeen, who face bottom of the league Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
The weekend’s results seemed to be the final nail for the Gers, with a dismal 1-1 draw with struggling Motherwell being made to be extremely costly as Aberdeen thumped Dundee 7-0 to put the points gap between the two clubs into double figures.
However, it is still not impossible for Rangers to leapfrog Aberdeen, though there simply cannot be any slip-ups from here on out, as Pedro Caixinha’s side need to win every single game to realistically have a chance.

The much maligned six team split could actually work in Rangers’ favour, as Aberdeen will have to face Rangers before the split takes place, and will then have to face the Gers and a Celtic side determined to finish the season unbeaten after.
As is often the way with football, it’s all ifs, buts and maybes – though saying that, Rangers still do have some chance of finishing second, for now at least.
