Rangers take on Celtic in another Old Firm derby on Sunday afternoon, and they appear to be closing in on a new manager as Graeme Murty’s spell comes to an end.

Murty has been in interim charge since October, and whilst he has performed admirably, The Scottish Sun report that Steven Gerrard is closing in on the job.

The Liverpool youth coach, 37, is set for his first managerial role as he prepares to take the Ibrox job, and he has allegedly approved deals for Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield.

Gerrard may also influence other deals alongside director of football Mark Allen, and one player with strong links to both men is Manchester City’s Bobby Duncan.

Forward Duncan, 16, has been with City for the last six years, where former City academy director Allen oversaw his development and helped him on his way to becoming an England Under-17 international.

Not only does Allen have links to Duncan, but the teenager is also Gerrard’s cousin, and The Sun recently reported that he was on his way to Liverpool work with Gerrard at Anfield.

With both Allen and Gerrard more than familiar with Duncan, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Rangers launch a last-gasp bid to hijack Liverpool’s move for the City contract rebel – and with a clearer path to first-team football at Ibrox, a double reunion could be hugely appealing to the teenager.
