Speaking on LFC TV, Luis Garcia has been discussing Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho and his versatility.
Carvalho has joined Liverpool from Fulham, and interestingly, he arrives without truly fitting into Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Carvalho made his name last season as a number 10, but with Liverpool preferring a 4-3-3, there isn’t room for him to play in his preferred role for the Reds unless their formation changes.
However, according to Garcia, Carvalho is more than capable of playing in any position, from full-back, to the midfield all the way to the attack.
What’s been said?
Garcia spoke about Carvalho and his versatility, comparing him to James Milner.
“He’s one of those players who you can play in so many positions. We’ve seen Milner play in midfield, as a striker, almost as a goalkeeper and I think Carvalho is the same. We saw him almost in a full-back position and in the middle as we saw the other day,” Garcia said.
“He’s a player who with the ability he’s got and the speed he’s got, he can play in every position on the pitch. If you play him in the midfield onwards he’ll be even better because he has that ability to score,” Garcia said.

Not the new Milner
Garcia seems to believe that Carvalho is a similar player to James Milner, but Liverpool would be making a massive mistake if they tried to mould the former Fulham man into Milner 2.0.
Now, Carvalho does have the talent to be as versatile as someone like Milner, but he shouldn’t be moulded into a utility man.
This is an attacking midfielder with bags of ability and talent, so to use him as a functional midfielder or even a full-back would be a massive waste of potential.
Carvalho needs to be used as an attacking force if Liverpool are to get the best out of him.
