Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘can play better’ following his substitution against Everton on Saturday.

The Reds were held to a point by a stubborn Everton side during the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park yesterday.

Alexander-Arnold is among the Liverpool players who invariably gets 90 minutes everytime Klopp’s side pull the shirt on.

However, the German manager subbed off his right-back against Newcastle United in midweek and did the same at Goodison yesterday.

And although the Liverpool boss is adamant that it wasn’t because of his form, Klopp also added that Alexander-Arnold ‘can play better’.

He told the club’s official website: ” It’s nothing to do with his performance, even when I know Trent can play better than today definitely but it’s nothing to do with that.”

Everyone knows Alexander-Arnold can play better but he’s in a worrying patch of form right now.

Despite scoring a worldie of a long ranger against Bournemouth last weekend, the Liverpool defender has taken stick this season for his, well, defending.

He has made a number of defensive errors that somebody of his class and experience shouldn’t be making and it’s certainly a worry for the Reds.

Unlike Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson, Klopp doesn’t really have a quality covering option for Alexander-Arnold – who earns £180,000 per week – on the other side of the field though and that’s perhaps an oversight by the boss, with the transfer window just closed.
