Matty Cash is close to declaring for Poland following confirmation from his father that the paperwork should be completed soon.
Fabrizio Romano posted to Twitter that Stuart Cash had confirmed that the Aston Villa star has been in the process of getting his Polish passport for some time.
Cash’s father said: “We’ve started the process to receive Polish passport months ago and it should be completed soon. Matty would be open to playing for Poland, if they want.”
Indeed, it is an interesting development in Cash’s career. The former Nottingham Forest star has been one of Villa’s star performers since arriving to the Premier League in 2020.
However, with England stacked with quality right-backs such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kyle Walker and Reece James, breaking into Gareth Southgate’s squad was always going to be difficult for Cash.
That’s not to say Cash is taking a step down in playing for Poland, though. The eastern European nation boasts some of the best players currently in world football, namely Robert Lewandowski and Wojciech Szczesny.
