You may have heard that the UK Government have now imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich, which has caused a problem for Chelsea.

In order for the Russian Oligarch to no longer profit from the Blues, all trading has been frozen at Stamford Bridge, including the sale of match tickets.

With Newcastle set to take on Chelsea in west London this Sunday, the Toon Army will be wondering what this news means for the Premier League clash.

Fear not, Newcastle fans – here’s everything you need to know…

Yes. On March 3rd, Newcastle confirmed that their trip to west London had sold out, and the 3,000 fans who purchased tickets will still be allowed to go.

Tickets purchased before Abramovich was sanctioned – including season tickets for Chelsea fans – will be respected by the UK Government.

Chelsea have been given a special license to continue some aspects of trading, such as food and drink inside Stamford Bridge, although Abramovich will not profit.

However, any Newcastle fan hoping to visit the club shop at Stamford Bridge on Sunday – for whatever reason – won’t be able to do so.

As aforesaid, the UK Government are respecting tickets which were purchased before they imposed sanctions on Abramovich.

However, once Sunday’s clash between Newcastle and Chelsea is over, fans who are yet to purchase a ticket for a game at Stamford Bridge are no longer able to do so.

Unless Abramovich hands Chelsea over to the UK Government, or another party, the situation will remain the same.

Only time will tell what happens to Chelsea from this point on.
