Arsenal have reportedly joined the race for Southampton’s Matt Targett and the move makes a lot of sense considering Sead Kolasinac’s performances.

Targett has been the subject of much speculation over the last few weeks after failing to nail down a regular starting spot with the Saints.
Ryan Bertrand has cemented the left full-back role for himself at St Mary’s and with that unlikely to change any time soon, Targett could well leave the club.
Arsenal have reportedly emerged as surprise suitors for the 23-year-old but a move for him makes sense with their problems in the position and their limited transfer budget.
Nacho Monreal has been converted into a centre-back while Sead Kolasinac has struggled defensively. The Bosnian has been a key attacking outlet for Unai Emery’s side on the left flank but his defensive contribution has at times been nonexistent.
The Gunners will need to bring in a new left-back in the summer transfer window and Targett could be a huge bargain. The 23-year-old can operate both as a wing-back as well as in his natural full-back position which definitely suits Emery’s constant changes in shape.
Targett might lack the powerful runs down the flanks that Kolasinac delivers but he would certainly add a lot more balance to the Gunners’ side. His willingness to track back to help out the defence could offer Arsenal something that they have lacked this season and with age very much on his side, he could solve the club’s woes in that area for the best part of the next decade.
