With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain having done well since joining from Arsenal can Liverpool do the same with Jack Wilshere?
Jack Wilshere of Arsenal is closed down by Tiemoue Bakayoko of Chelsea during the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Second Leg.
The Gunners have offered Wilshere a new deal, but it includes a cut to his current £90,000-a-week wages and so far the 26-year-old has failed to put pen to paper.
Christian Eriksen of Tottenham Hotspur is challenged by Emre Can of Liverpool during the Premier League match Anfield.
The Reds, meanwhile, are prepared to match the England international’s current earnings if they can land him for free as they look for a replacement for Emre Can.
Can is also out of contract this summer and has been heavily linked with a switch to Juventus, which means despite the arrival of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, manager Jurgen Klopp still wants another addition in central midfield.
Both Wilshere and the Merseysiders are likely to be even more convinced by a potential deal because of the success Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has enjoyed since making the same move in the summer in a £35m transfer.
Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (C) celebrates scoring the opening goal during the English Premier League football match against Manchester City.
Oxlade-Chamberlain also had a frustrating time at the Emirates Stadium due to injury and despite a slow start at Anfield initially, has really kicked on in recent times to flourish under Klopp’s guidance.
The 24-year-old is sure to give his fellow countryman and former teammate a glowing recommendation of his time up north since the switch and could be the key to why Wilshere would make the same move.
