Lewie Coyle has left Leeds United to join Fleetwood Town on loan.
Leeds United have confirmed on their official website that Lewie Coyle has temporarily left the club to join Fleetwood Town on loan, in a deal that seems awfully familiar to another move involving the two clubs back in 2013.
Four years ago, a Whites academy graduate who was struggling to break into the first-team at full-back headed to Highbury Stadium for a loan spell that arguably proved to be a major turning point in his Elland Road career as it saw him earn a new three-year deal (via Yorkshire Evening Post) and helped lead to him becoming a first-team regular for Leeds the following season.

Although Charlie Taylor’s relationship with the Leeds fans has subsequently soured with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that his exit is now imminent, there is no question that many supporters would have been grateful for his time at Fleetwood as it ensured that a player who has been one of the most talented in the Championship over the past couple of years did not slip through the net.
And Coyle will be hoping that his spell with Uwe Rosler’s men has a similar impact on his chances of earning first-team football at Leeds.
Though the 21-year-old’s talent and potential is undeniable, the fact that Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi can both play on the right of defence means that his path to the first-team is currently incredibly congested and makes a loan exit seem a sensible move for all parties.
And while Coyle may have previously been concerned about his chances of becoming an important player at Leeds, recent history certainly suggests that this move could prove to be exactly the kind of springboard that the youngster needs.
