For the second summer transfer window running, Leeds United have snapped up the services of a Wolverhampton Wanderers player, this time it’s Helder Costa.
Leeds United have two players in their ranks in Barry Douglas and Helder Costa who are well aware of what it takes to earn promotion to the Premier League after they did so with Wolves two seasons ago.
During their time at Molineux, they produced stunning performances in their own respective ways and Leeds supporters will be hoping they can transcend that to Elland Road.
Left-back Douglas, who signed for Leeds last summer for a fee in the region of £3 million [Sky Sports], is already well aware of what it’s like playing for the Yorkshire club.
Meanwhile, winger Costa, whose loan to permanent transfer may rise to £15 million [Mirror], will get a taste of what it’s like to play under the pressure cooker at Elland Road ahead of the new campaign.
Simply put, if the £18 million duo can replicate the performances that won them plaudits at Wolves then Leeds’ chances of earning promotion to the Premier League will increase dramatically.
There’s no doubt that Douglas’s best performances of his career came during Wolves’ promotion run, where he provided 14 assists and scored five goals to boot, all from left wing-back [transfermarkt].
Whilst Costa also played his part during that season, his best moments came during his debut campaign at the Midlands club when he netted 10 goals from the flanks and supplied eight assists to go with it [transfermarkt].
That’s exactly what Marcelo Bielsa is looking for, and the introduction of Costa may just get the best out of Douglas ahead of the new season.
Leeds were missing key contributions outside of their main goalscorers last season, now in Costa and Douglas, they have two players who have previous of providing that extra bite for a team. Adding that to Leeds ahead of the new season will add a new dimension to their game.
