Can Leeds United duo remain injury-free this season?

Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah have started off the season in a strong fashion.

Leeds United suffered their first defeat of the season before the international break, but it’s something that won’t dishearten the fans too much because they have started off the season in a strong fashion.

Striker Patrick Bamford has netted four goals from his opening six matches, whilst back-up forward, Eddie Nketiah, who is on-loan from Arsenal, has produced the goods when called upon.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if both Bamford and Nketiah continue their goalscoring form as the season progresses, as many fans will be backing them to match or even better what Bamford himself and Kemar Roofe produced last season.

But in order for Bamford and Nketiah to better what happened last season, and with it improve Leeds chances of promotion in a dramatic fashion, they need to stay out of the treatment room, and of course, take their chances.

It could be argued that had either Roofe or Bamford played five to ten games more for their club last season then Marcelo Bielsa’s side would have ended up finishing in the automatic places.

Bamford played 22 Championship matches last term, whilst the now-departed Roofe played 32 games, given that there are 46 league games, that’s a significant amount of games they ended up missing.

Leeds will need some luck, but if Bamford and Nketiah can remain injury-free and play 40 games plus for the club this term then at least one of them will hit the 20+ goal mark.

Bamford netted nine goals in 22 matches last term [transfermarkt], whilst he has already netted four this term and is proving he has the capabilities of hitting that 20+ mark, but it seems as though it will be dependant on games played.

Not only that, if they can both stay fit it also give Bielsa a chance to play them together if he wishes or, like he did against Stoke in the League Cup, bring on Nketiah whilst Bamford is still on the pitch.

That’s something that Bielsa didn’t have the option to do last season because at least one of his key forwards were injured, which didn’t help Leeds United’s cause.
