Leeds United might get away with Southampton switching their attentions away from Pontus Jansson.

A worst case scenario for Leeds United may have been averted.
The Whites have not signed any defenders this summer so far, an area where they are already weak. The last thing they would need would be to lose star man Pontus Jansson.
Fortunately it appears long term suitors Southampton have decided to look elsewhere.
Southampton’s Jansson interest
Southampton were keen on Jansson last summer, with SkySports reporting he was a top target.
Jansson signed a new deal with Leeds, but in January Leeds Live reported Southampton were expected to make a late move for the Swede.

Southampton had sold Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool and were keen to land a replacement.
Jansson impressed on his only start at the World Cup, and could have re-ignited the Saints’ interest, but they now appear to be moving for Dane Jannik Westergaard instead.
Good news for Leeds
Southampton were by far and away the team most strongly linked to Jansson and them stepping back from their pursuit is a boost for the Whites.
Leeds are not totally safe and will only consider themselves to be so when the transfer window closes on August 9.
Their most pressing concerns now must be to show ambition with their own transfer targets as Jansson had made clear he wanted them to be.
The biggest threat to Jansson wanting to stay at Leeds is currently their own lack of activity.
