Another season in the Championship, and another season of pure drama awaits Leeds United ahead of the new campaign as they bid to end their barren run outside of England’s top-flight.

Last season, one thing that hindered Leeds in their run to the play-offs was their lack of bite of upfront and no-one seemingly being able to put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis.

Along with Leeds, West Brom also suffered play-off semi-final heartache, but their problems weren’t scoring goals, but stopping the ball from entering their net.

They were the second-highest goalscorers last term, behind championship champions Norwich City, with attacking duo Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez netting a large chunk of their goals.

Gayle scored 23 goals from his 39 games [transfermarkt], he was, at times, deployed out wide, with his partner scoring 22 goals from 45 matches [transfermarkt].

Could Leeds United’s duo Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford have the same impact as the ex-Midlands pair? And can Marcelo Bielsa somehow manage to get them playing in the same starting XI?

Bielsa is considering a formation change ahead of the new campaign [Daily Mail], and it remains to be seen what impact that will have on the team.

But whilst Roofe and Bamford will struggle to match the goals the former Albion duo scored, if they can have the impact they had on the Midlands outfit then they’ll prove to be utterly dangerous.

Injuries last season meant that both of them couldn’t be fit at the same time. But if they can stay away from the injury room, and produce the goods upfront then Leeds chances of earning promotion will increase dramatically.
