The Glasgow Rangers midfielder has some impressive stats this season according to his current boss.

In a recent interview with Rangers TV, the club’s interim boss Graeme Murty has praised midfielder Josh Windass, making a bold statement regarding his work-rate.

“I have been really pleased with him the last two games,” the Gers coach said, “but if you look at the stats and his data, the amount of ground he covers at high speed is at the very top level in the English Premier League.”

That is a bold statement, especially for a player who has been somewhat divisive with the Rangers fan base this season.

The 23-year-old has featured 19 times for the Gers in the current campaign, but it was Pedro Caixinha’s exit, followed by Murty’s temporary appointment, that saw a dramatic change.

Windass has now scored four goals and provided one assist in his last six league games for Rangers, while his work-rate has also improved considerably.

Whether he is really up there, in terms of energy and effort, with the Premier League’s top stars is up for debate, but it shows how highly he is rated by Murty and how the current Gers boss is good at motivating his players to perform consistently and improve in the process.

Given his age, Windass is still years away from his peak, and it will be interesting to see if he can continue on his current trajectory and potentially become one of Rangers best ever players.

That may be a bold statement, but if Murty is right about his current data, he is clearly gearing up to prove his worth over a prolonged period of time.
