Newcastle’s owners are reportedly keen on signing Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha in the January transfer window.

According to the Sun, the 16-cap Albanian international is a target for the Magpies. And that the Toon are eager to sign the Serie A star as soon as possible.

With Strakosha’s contract with Lazio expiring in the summer, it makes little sense why Newcastle are keen to sign the 26-year-old in January. Especially with the Premier League side having three first-team goalkeepers.

Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman are on Newcastle’s books. And signing Strakosha in January could make competition for the number one spot unhealthy.

Although Strakosha has been relegated to number two at Lazio, with Pepe Reina taking over as Maurizio Sarri’s starting keeper, the Albanian star could be a solid option for most Premier League sides.

But with issues in the Newcastle side much greater than the goalkeeping area, supporters on social media are fuming that PIF are keen to sign Strakosha in January.

Defence has been a major issue for Newcastle all season, yet most supporters on social media believe that Strakosha will not solve this issue for the rest of the season.
