Everton have been linked heavily with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw in recent times.

According to the Guardian, Luke Shaw could leave Manchester United for free in 2019 – but there must be a question mark over whether Everton can afford to wait.

Shaw has been heavily linked with Everton in recent times in ESPN, with the Toffees believed to be keen to bring in a left-back this summer.

Everton have struggled to find a solid left-sided defender this term, with Leighton Baines out injured for much of the campaign.

Cuco Martina has filled in, but it has been widely anticipated that the Toffees will move for a new left-back next term.

However, their plans may be rocked slightly, with the news that Shaw is happy to run his contract at United down.

With the defender, who once cost £30 million, potentially available for free in 2019, Everton may view that deal as a potential bargain.

Shaw will be a costly signing this summer, so to land him on a free just over a year’s time would be a major coup.

But Everton must now weigh up whether leaving themselves short at left-back for next season is worth it, in the hope of landing a bargain in two summers’ time.
