Jurgen Klopp has told beIN Sports during their live Champions League coverage that Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino was nowhere near his best last night.
Minamino was given a rare start in Liverpool’s attack against Midtjylland in the Champions League, but he didn’t manage to make the impact that he may have been hoping.
Liverpool did win the tie 2-0, but Minamino was withdrawn on the hour mark after failing to make much of an impact.
And Klopp has suggested that although the Japanese international’s attitude was good, he looked far too rushed in his play.
“Taki can do so much better – slightly hectic tonight but attitude wise – 100% there,” Klopp said.
Minamino is now really fighting for his place in Liverpool’s squad, as he looks to earn minutes.

The forward has struggled to really establish himself in Liverpool’s team since a January move from RB Salzburg.
While Diogo Jota has come in an made an immediate impact with the Reds, Minamino has struggled far more – and he will surely need to have a greater impact in future starts, if he is to earn Klopp’s trust to feature more regularly.
