Writing in his Team of the Week column, Alan Shearer has been waxing-lyrical about Bruno Guimaraes after his wonderful display against Brentford at the weekend.
The Brazilian was up to his old tricks again at St James’ Park, scoring two goals and absolutely running the show from the centre of midfield.
Understandably, Shearer was utterly blown away by the South American’s quality in the game, stating that he can do it all and that he ran the match.

Shearer lauds Guimaraes
The pundit was full of praise for the midfielder
“The Brazilian can do it all. Not content with running the match, he scored two brilliant goals,” Shearer wrote.
Signing of the decade
When all is said and done, Guimaraes may end up looking like the best signing Newcastle have made in a decade.
Not since Papiss Cisse has a player come in at St James’ Park and made such an immediate impact, and unlike Cisse, we think that Guimaraes will be able to keep up this level of form in the long-term.
As Shearer says, the Brazilian ticks every single box. He’s as good a playmaker as he is a defender, while he’s also proven his goalscoring prowess in recent months as well.
Newcastle haven’t had a player like this for a long time, and even if they go on to become one of the best teams in Europe under PIF, Guimaraes will probably still be one of their most important players.
Make no mistake about it, Guimaraes is one of the best midfielders in the world, and Newcastle are incredibly lucky to have him.
