Former Manchester United captain Patrice Evra said he was in awe of one Liverpool player during last night’s 3-0 win against Leicester City, speaking to Sky Sports (22/11 from 19:00).

Sadio Mane failed to get on the scoresheet but was excellent throughout. The Senegal international caused Leicester defenders huge problems and played a major part in helping the Reds smash three goals.

Evra heaped praise on the former Southampton star and claimed he could destroy any defender he comes up against.

The Frenchman said: “No Mane, no party. I think he’s one of the most important players for Liverpool. The front three – him, (Mohamed) Salah, (Roberto) Firmino – (Mane is) the one who can press the ball.

“He’s the one when he’s got the ball, he gets to the defender. He can destroy any player one v one. He may not have scored but he was so effective for Liverpool.”

Mane was certainly on fire for the Reds last night. His pace, skill on the ball, ability to pick a pass and shooting make him one of the best players in the Premier League, if not in the world.

He has scored five goals and provided three assists this season.

Salah’s covid-related absence combined with Liverpool’s terrible luck with injuries at the back didn’t affect their performance one bit, much to the surprise of many.

Jurgen Klopp deserves credit for getting the best out of his squad with so many players out.

If he can continue in the same vein, the Reds will be odds-on to retain their title. This would arguably make this campaign even more impressive than their dominant display last season.
