Cody Gakpo has signed for Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven and some will be wondering if he can play against Leicester City on Friday.

The Reds seemingly moved out of nowhere to swoop in and sign Gakpo ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Manchester United were very keen on signing Gakpo but ended up missing out as Liverpool made their move.

Gakpo was presented as a new Liverpool player on Wednesday night, with the Reds handing him the number 18 shirt at Anfield.

Many are left wondering just when Gakpo can pull on that shirt in a competitive game thought with a debut coming soon.

Can Gakpo play for Liverpool against Leicester City?

Liverpool are in Premier League action on Friday night as Leicester City head to Anfield.

However, Gakpo will not be allowed to play in that game.

Liverpool may have confirmed the signing of Gakpo but he can only officially arrive when the January transfer window opens.

That will be on Sunday, January 1st, meaning Gakpo must wait for a few days yet.

The chances are that Liverpool will present Gakpo to the Anfield crowd on Friday night, giving him a chance to soak up the support from Reds fans.

Gakpo would then be available for Monday’s game at Brentford, as long as all the boring paperwork has been completed.

The turnaround would still be pretty quick, so we’re not expecting to see Gakpo play many – if any – minutes in West London.

Liverpool then have an FA Cup clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on January 7th, which may be an ideal game for Gakpo to make his first Liverpool start.

The Dutchman likely can’t wait to get going with Liverpool having completed his exciting move to Merseyside.

Liverpool fans probably feel a similar way, but they won’t be seeing him feature against Brendan Rodgers and co on Friday.
