Newcastle United reportedly want Celtic target Abel Hernandez, whose Hull City contract expires this summer.
According to Ovacion, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has asked about a possible deal for Abel Hernandez – and that should be bad news for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
Newcastle will be in the market to bolster their striking options this summer and Benitez has seemingly identified the Hull City hitman – available for free this summer – as a potential target.
Problem is, Celtic are also rumoured to be interested in the Uruguayan, but surely the Hoops have no chance if Benitez is genuinely keen on bringing him to St James’s Park.
Not only will the Magpies be able to offer him better personal terms than Celtic, but the Hull striker might also feel as if he has a point to prove in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old joined Hull in 2014 for a club-record £10,8 million deal, but considering he only netted eight times in close to 50 Premier League games, you could say he failed to justify the transfer fee.
He may well feel obliged to prove himself in the top flight if a second chance comes along and although Celtic can offer him trophies and Champions League football, it may not compare to Newcastle who can offer him the chance to silence critics – and more money.
Time will tell which is more important for the South American.
