West Ham United and Watford go head-to-head this weekend and one striker in particular may be hoping to prove a point.
Back in the summer, West Ham United were linked with a £15million move for then-Burnley striker Andre Gray, with the London Evening Standard suggesting the Hammers were leading the race for the front man.
In the end, West Ham opted to sign Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic, with Gray ending up at Watford, and this weekend the two sides go head-to-head at Vicarage Road.
West Ham have struggled this season, to such an extent that Slaven Bilic was replaced by David Moyes prior to the latest international break, and they could have done with a player of Gray’s quality up front, even if he had only managed one goal for Watford to date.
That form could be worrying for West Ham, with the player likely to want to prove a point against his one-time suitors, signalling a new dawn following another break in the domestic action.
Gray shone at Burnley but, despite Watford’s brilliant start to the new campaign, he will not be happy with his return.
Back in the starting line-up for the recent game against Everton, Gray got a much needed assist to boost his confidence and, provided he starts this weekend, he will be aiming to prove West Ham made a mistake not moving for him while they had the chance.
