Everton icon Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Toffees boss Sam Allardyce on Twitter despite claiming the football is “not pretty” and taking over the reigns at Goodison Park at a “horrendous time”.

Allardyce has won three of his four matches since taking over earlier this month, beating Huddersfield Town, Apollon Limassol and on Wednesday night they earned a narrow 1-0 win over Newcastle United.

Sam Allardyce, Manager of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Everton at St. James Park on December 13, 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Following Sunday’s draw against Merseyside rivals Liverpool, Wayne Rooney was on target once again to bundle the ball home from close range, after Toon goalkeeper Karl Darlow failed to hold the ball from an Aaron Lennon header.

Former Toffees captain Campbell claimed Allardyce deserves credit as the Toffees sit as high as tenth position despite being in the relegation zone under Ronald Koeman.

The Goodison Park side now sit eight points above the bottom three and will only be looking upwards after 10 points from a possible 12. They will be expected to make it four out of five when they play host to Swansea City on Monday night.

Now with nine Premier League goals, Rooney sits behind only Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero and Mo Salah, and remains level with Romelu Lukaku, Raheem Sterling and Alvaro Morata in the goalscoring rankings.

Three points next time out could see Allardyce’s side climb into ninth place, if Watford drop points at home to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
