Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton has picked Gilks for the majority of the club’s cup games this term.
Former Rangers stopper Cammy Bell
Former Rangers goalkeeper Cammy Bell believes that Mark Warburton should select Wes Foderingham in goal for Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final clash with Celtic instead of Matt Gilks, The Scottish Sun reports.
While the pair shared the responsibility during the group-stages of the competition, Gilks has been selected between the sticks for the subsequent cup games while Foderingham has remained the team’s number one in the league.

And while Gilks may therefore be expecting to play at Hampden Park, Bell – who left Ibrox in the summer, having been Foderingham’s understudy during his final season with the club – has insisted that Warburton should put fairness to the back of his mind.
“If you’ve decided Wes is your No 1 goalie then I’d start my No 1 goalie,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“His form has been good this season so I would go with Wes.
“As the No 1 you want to be the guy who goes and wins trophies and is successful.
“It’s the manager’s decision but if a manager told me at the start of the season I’d miss cup games then I’d have said I wasn’t happy with that.”

Gilks will not have played a competitive game for the Light Blues in over a month by the time the two rivals take to the pitch on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Foderingham has played three games since the quarter-final victory over Queen of the South, and has conceded just two goals and kept two clean sheets during that run.
With the former Swindon man being the first-choice in the top flight, it is fair to say that that would make him the team’s number one, and thus, as Bell suggests, it would surely make sense to keep faith with him for a game of this magnitude.
