Cammy Bell has praised Steven Davis’s role in Rangers’ goal today.

The Gers beat Hibernian 1-0 at Ibrox to ensure Steven Gerrard’s side go into next week’s Old Firm derby with a head of steam.

Jermain Defoe’s first-half strike was enough for Rangers, but the legendary striker had a bit of help from his team-mate.

Davis, who officially joined the light Blues this week, made a brilliant run and laid the ball off for Defoe to tuck away the opener.

And Bell, working as a pundit for BBC Sport, highlighted the Northern Irishman’s role in the winner.

He said: “The goal is all about Steven Davis. He wins the first one and the ball gets played up. He steals it at the head and continues his run.

“Then he’s got the composure to lift his head and he picks out Defoe really well.”

Davis, who earns £12,000 per week at Ibrox [Belfast Telegraph], has been a revelation in recent weeks.

His half-season loan from Southampton didn’t get off to a brilliant start, but there is no denying that his increase in form has helped Rangers in a big way as of late.

If he can replicate this standard on a regular basis next season, it could go a long way toward helping Gerrard’s side knock Celtic off their perch.
