Carter-Vickers has impressed since signing for Ipswich in January, having spent the first half of the campaign at Sheffield United.
And the United States international told Green ‘Un 24: “I’ve really enjoyed it.
“It’s been my first full season playing senior football and I’ve learnt a lot and like to think I’ve improved as a player.
“I’m not sure (what’s next) because that’s not really my decision – it’s for Tottenham. All I know is that I’m going back to Tottenham for pre-season and see what happens from there.”
Carter-Vickers faces a battle to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham plans, with Jan Vertonghen, Davinson Sanchez, Toby Alderweireld and Juan Foyth among those currently ahead of him in the pecking order.
And should the 20-year-old fail to impress back at his parent club, he would be open to a second tier return – be it at Ipswich or somewhere else.
“Yeah, definitely,” he added when asked if he would return to Portman Road.
“I want to play football so if the opportunity comes and the manager at Tottenham says he doesn’t need me and the opportunity to play football again in the Championship comes up then I will be up for it.
“Things change in football quickly so you never know.”
Carter-Vickers, who made his senior international bow earlier this season, has only played four times for Spurs – with each of his outings coming in cup competitions.
