Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has taken to Twitter in order to comment on making his first-team debut against Gillingham.

Spurs advanced into the last 16 of the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening by hammering League One side Gillingham 5-0 at White Hart Lane, with Christian Eriksen scoring either side of half time to put Tottenham 2-0 up.

Vincent Janssen, Joshua Onomah and Erik Lamela added goals in the second half to hand Spurs a 5-0 win, and give them a clash with Liverpool in the next round.

Whilst manager Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased to see striker Janssen score his first competitive goal for the club, but he will also be encouraged by the display of defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The 18-year-old centre back has come up through the ranks at White Hart Lane having joined Spurs at the age of just 11, and has been tipped to have a huge future with the club.

Having featured for Spurs in pre-season, Carter-Vickers has been on the bench for all but one of Tottenham’s Premier League games, and was handed his first competitive start for the club against Gillingham.

On Thursday, Carter-Vickers took to Twitter to react after making his first start, admitting that he was happy to play, and hopes it was just the first of many appearances for Spurs.

Having seemingly forced his way ahead of Austrian international Kevin Wimmer in Tottenham’s pecking order, Carter-Vickers may well see more first-team football this season – and will be hoping to become the latest in a long line of success stories for Tottenham’s academy.
