The Los Angeles Lakers selected Cameron Carr with the No. 24 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, and he’s already assimilating into the team.
Carr is coming out of Baylor and was a pre-draft standout as an athletic 3-and-D guard/wing. He’ll hope to make an immediate impact next season as the Lakers eye title contention.
Carr isn’t a throwaway selection, as core Lakers stars are already reaching out to him and welcoming him to the franchise.
Cameron Carr welcomed to Lakers by Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves
TMZ caught up with Cameron’s father, former NBA player Chris Carr, at an airport and asked him if his son had spoken to any of his future teammates, with Chris revealing that Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves reached out.
“Luka and Austin Reaves have already texted him and said welcome to the family.”
The Lakers are going to be built around Doncic and Reaves, so it makes sense for those two leaders to reach out. With Carr likely featuring in the backcourt as a bench option, he will definitely share the court with either Doncic or Reaves.
Carr averaged xxx in the NCAA last year. His numbers won’t be big in LA, but his impact might allow him to secure a rotational role as soon as October.
Cameron Carr’s 2026-27 Lakers season outlook
The Lakers roster still has a lot of pieces to finalize, primarily the future of LeBron James. The more important free agent dilemma with respect to Carr comes from Marcus Smart.

While the Lakers would prefer retaining Smart, he might receive an expensive free agency offer to leave the franchise, which would be good for Carr’s prospects.
If Smart returns, Carr would have a great mentor to learn from as a fringe rotational player in his rookie season. If Smart leaves, the Lakers might prefer giving Carr an opportunity before hunting for replacements that would impact salary space and future assets.
Luke Kennard is also a Lakers free agent, so it seems Carr likely will replace one of the two players, as the Lakers are unlikely to re-sign both and also use Carr.
