Calvin Miller admits almost leaving Celtic last month

Brendan Rodgers decided to give Calvin Miller a chance in Celtic’s starting line-up at the weekend.

Calvin Miller has admitted to the Daily Record that he nearly left Celtic in the January transfer window, but injuries have provided him with his chance.

Miller was all set to go out on a loan move last month, as Brendan Rodgers wanted the youngster to get regular action.

However, an injury crisis meant that Celtic were forced to keep hold of the youngster.

Rodgers decided to bring Miller into Celtic’s team to face St. Johnstone at the weekend, as the Bhoys picked up a 0-0 draw.

And Miller said: “There is a big squad here, a lot of players, so I was going to be going out on loan.

“But we got a few injuries so the gaffer told me he wanted me to stay closer to the squad.

“He just told me to work hard and that’s how I got my chance today because I have been doing that.”

Miller’s task of staying in Celtic’s team is extremely though, as he is in competition with Kieran Tierney for a place.

Tierney is one of Celtic’s star players and most consistent performers, so Miller is normally having to watch on from the sidelines.

Celtic are next in action on Thursday evening in the Europa League against Zenit St Petersburg, and Tierney will surely return for that contest.

Rodgers’ side go into the second-leg of the tie defending a 1-0 advantage, after picking up a crucial victory over Zenit.
