Dominic Calvert-Lewin has said to the Times that Everton’s Jordan Pickford and Ben Godfrey were both shocked that Carlo Ancelotti left.

Ancelotti departed Everton last week for Real Madrid in highly unexpected circumstances.

The move went through rapidly, with Everton now still looking for a manager.

Calvert-Lewin, Godfrey and Pickford were all concentrating on England matters at the time, ahead of Euro 2020.

But they did have time to talk about Ancelotti’s departure, and Calvert-Lewin admits that the news came as a big surprise to the trio.

“I don’t think anybody expected it,” the striker admitted. “I haven’t spoken to anybody at the club, apart from the Everton lads who are with England. We all felt the same. It’s a big, big surprise. You just have to roll with these things in football.”

The Italian was known to have a good relationship with Calvert-Lewin and took him to a new level.

The powerful forward has just enjoyed the best season of his career, which has led to him forcing his way into England’s squad for the European Championships.

He will be joined there by Jordan Pickford, but Godfrey will mis out, with Ben White grabbing the final slot – following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury.
