The Everton forward’s pace is vital for Everton although he is little more than an average player at this stage of his career.

Everton are in trouble and the only way to change things is for manager Ronald Koeman to put his faith in some of his previously peripheral figures.
One such player is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose pace is vital with Everton lacking any senior alternatives after a summer transfer window that started brilliantly but failed to solve the issue of Romelu Lukaku’s departure.

What speaks volumes about Everton’s current predicament is that Calvert-Lewin is average at best, a player who should not be tipped as a Toffees saviour at this early stage of his career.
Koeman had all summer to sign the right players and, while he spent plenty of money, Everton’s forward line is lacking any pace, making Calvert-Lewin and his young teammate Ademola Lookman necessities rather than welcome extras who can develop their careers at the right pace.

In time the 20-year-old should grow into a fine footballer who is starting more often than not for Everton. However for now he really is little more than an average footballer whose importance has skyrocketed more because of his manager’s failings than his own performances.
Expected to start against Sunderland in the EFL Cup this evening, Calvert-Lewin has another chance to prove his worth.
But it is worrying times for Everton if he really is the best they have got just weeks after they were being tipped in some quarters for a top four challenge.
