Calum Chambers has posted on Instagram ‘putting the work in’ at Aston Villa training following his departure from Arsenal.

To the surprise of many, days before the January transfer window slammed shut, Villa announced the signing of Chambers from Arsenal.

It has been a few days since the 27-year-old has been at Bodymoor Heath and he posted this message on Instagram.

It did take many by surprise when Villa announced the arrival of Chambers from Arsenal.

Just like Danny Ings, he signed on the dotted line without any rumours or noise from the media that there is interest, talks, a medical or anything of that nature.

It’s hugely impressive, from Villa’s part, that they can churn out deals such as this in a modern and digital age where every little detail is shared in an instant.

But Chambers will now be donning the colours of Claret and Blue and it will be interesting to see how he features in Steven Gerrard’s plans going forward.

Chambers is versatile and can play across the front line, but he is a bonafide centre-back, so he will challenge Ezri Konsa and Tyrone Mings for the centre-back spots.

The former Southampton man has a fight on his hand because Konsa is Villa’s best defender, whilst Mings is wearing the captain’s armband.

But that’s Gerrard building competiton and trying to get the best out of a squad of players that want to get into Europe.
