Darren Bent told Sky Sports Premier League on Wednesday evening that Tottenham fans need to ‘calm down’ following their protests yesterday.

Prior to Tottenham’s 2-1 win against Southampton, fans were seen protesting outside of the stadium and calling for change.

Banners with ‘ENIC Out’ were being waved around by the Tottenham fans, who were fuelled and angered by the recent European Super League fiasco.

As events unfolded outside of Tottenham’s stadium, Bent shared his thoughts on those protests.

“They are still hurting,” said Bent. “It’s disgusting what was going on. (With the ESL).

“But for Spurs and Daniel Levy, he has never been the most popular character anyway.

“So, this has just given them more ammunition. As I said for the fans, they need to just calm down.

“I understand that they are disappointed. They are going to be hurt for a long, long time. It was almost taken away from them.”

Apart from perhaps Chelsea, every other of the six English teams that signed up for the now-disgraced ESL, now want their owners to sell up.

And Tottenham isn’t any different.

Whilst there were always issues bubbling away under the surface with most of these owners and their fans, it’s now hit levels like never before.
