Speaking on the Counter Attack Podcast, Harvey Elliott has been discussing the first time he met Jurgen Klopp, claiming that the Liverpool manager’s personality is amazing.
Elliott of course joined Liverpool on a free transfer back in 2019, and he was scouting out a number of clubs he wanted to join that summer.
He claims that his mind was made up the first time he ever met Klopp as the manager came and gave him a massive hug upon meeting him.
“It was just amazing. With Jurgen from the first second I met him I was like ‘yeah, this is where I want to be’. The first time I met him he came up and gave me a big hug, and for a manager to do that and have a big smile on his face, it’s great to see and you feel welcomed and just feel calm,” Elliott said.
“You don’t feel like you need to impress or say and do the right things, and you can be yourself around him. It’s the same with everyone at Liverpool.”

The Liverpool youngster then shared that Klopp was actually, for some reason, wearing a dressing gown when the pair first met.
“He just pulled up in a dressing gown, that was it basically, I think that’s just his personality really, he’s just a calm and composed guy. He’s always smiling, always grinning always having a laugh and always joking around and stuff, and for that to happen the first time I met him that was great to see.”
This is great to hear.
What you see is what you get with Klopp, and when Liverpool aren’t in the midst of a serious game or going through a rough patch he seems like a really funny person.
The German turning up to Melwood in a dressing gown tells you all you need to know about him, and Elliott seems to love that relaxed and funny atmosphere around the club.
