Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been chatting about Newcastle’s transfer priorities and their need for a new striker.
The 29-year-old is well aware that Newcastle will have a busy window, and he says that the Magpies need to bring in a short-term solution up front in order to cover for his injury.
Understandably, Wilson didn’t want United to sign a long-term option up top. After all, he wants the number nine spot for the foreseeable future at St James’ Park.
What’s Wilson said?
The striker admitted that the Magpies need to sign someone to replace him in the short-term.
“With me being out now and not having a time-frame, we also need someone to replace me in the short-term. Obviously, I’m not going to say the long-term because you have to back yourself. But yeah, I think we definitely need players and it’s down to the club and the recruitment guys to bring in the right players,” Wilson said.
Need a striker
Whether Newcastle want a short-term fix or a long-term solution, one thing is for sure, the Magpies need a striker through the door.
Wilson is out of action, and after Joelinton was reinvented as a midfielder, the Magpies are looking rather short up top, and they need a new centre-forward in to cover for Wilson’s absence.
Luckily, Newcastle have been linked to a few different attackers including Divock Origi, Eddie Nketiah and Dominic Solanke – however, it has to be said that Nketiah and Solanke would likely be more long-term signings, which could spell bad news for Wilson.
