Sunderland winger Callum McManaman has told the Chronicle that he is good enough to be starting regularly for Chris Coleman’s side.

McManaman has struggled for game time at Sunderland this term, despite their struggles.

The 26-year-old has started just nine Championship matches, and he has largely been used as a substitute by Coleman.

However, the wide-man scored Sunderland’s equaliser in their last match against Middlesbrough, which finished as a 3-3 draw.

McManaman finished well in the last minute to rescue a point for the Black Cats.

And the former West Bromwich Albion man is now hoping that his goal can help him force his way back into Sunderland’s team.

He said: “I’ve been knocking on the door and I feel like the goal had been coming. You just need that first one to go in and once it does it really boosts your confidence.

“The niggles are behind me now, and I’m enjoying playing under the gaffer, so hopefully I can force my way back into the starting XI and play every week because I believe I’m good enough.”

If McManaman could find his top form it would be a major boost for Sunderland, as they battle against the drop.

The Black Cats are currently sat at the bottom of the Championship table, five points adrift of safety.
