Sunderland signed Callum McManaman on the deadline day.
Callum McManaman was one of the three players to have joined Sunderland on the transfer deadline day.
The 26-year-old joined West Bromwich Albion from Wigan Athletic for a reported fee of £4.75 million in January 2015 with a lot of promise, but he was allowed to leave on a free transfer.
He was Tony Pulis’ first signing as West Brom manager, but after making just seven starts in a season-and-a-half for the Baggies, they decided to let him go.
The former Wigan winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, but the transfer move didn’t work out for him as he had expected.
Simon Grayson has taken a risk on him, and the player is eager to put his career back on track.
“It’s been hard over the last year or so, not playing and not being involved,” said McManaman, as quoted by The Northern Echo.
“So I’m just looking to get playing again and get enjoying things again.
“I want to get back playing, and try to help this club get back where it belongs. It’s a massive club with a massive fan base.
“I just want to be playing every week and enjoying it. I want to get myself going and get back to where I was, because I haven’t been able to do that.”
Sunderland are short of wide options, with Wahbi Khazri having left to join Rennes.
Therefore, McManaman’s addition in a way helps address this issue. He will set to challenge Aiden McGeady, George Honeymoon and Jonny Williams for a place in the starting line-up.
